After a week of waiting at Etel, we finally find a good weather window for crossing the Bay of Biscay. The departure is approaching : “ we are setting sail on Saturday morning, at sunrise !_cc7819035-194c-debb 136bad5cf58d_” announces Flo. We hasten to go shopping for supplies. But for refueling, it's zero waste ! Equipped with our bulk bags, we rob the local Biocoop : pasta of all kinds, rice, lentils, semolina, bulgur, flour and sugar in sufficient quantity to go at least to Gibraltar_cc781905-5cde -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_! We also ship our cooked jars, to which we add other preserves, fresh food and water.

The boat is full to bursting. Everything ends up finding its place : scientific equipment under the chart table, canned goods in the lockers under the sofas, safety equipment in the port saloon locker, fresh and bulk products in our new shelves near the forepeak, and Breton cakes in the starboard saloon cupboards. We welcome Christophe and Agnès, two seasoned crew members who were kind enough to help us convey the boat for the crossing of the famous Bay of Biscay.

This is the big start. We say our last goodbyes to the family, and we weigh anchor. We all have a big smile frozen on our lips : " that's it girls, we've really gone there, you realize ??! ” launches Sarah. Big hug. We've been waiting for this moment for more than a year, so we're enjoying it ! The island of Groix is slowly moving away from the landscape, and after 34 hours of calm, it is the open sea, the open sea.

After a day and a night of navigation, the crew is amarined. The scopolamine must have something to do with it, so thank you Papy Mouche for thinking about our seasickness ! We got away with a few bruises on the head and on the knees (especially Agnès), but the stomachs did not flinch. Being 6 on board is quite practical for night shifts : we work in pairs so that everyone takes the helm for 3 hours, then has free time for the next 6 hours. We are all quite lethargic, and the 6 hours of free time are largely devoted to naps...
Soup, coffee, shift jacket and off you go. The pilot abandoned us yesterday in the middle of the night, so we take turns to steer. The lab is spinning in the night, heading SW, but we're drifting, we're going to have to tack as we approach Spain. The more the seasickness goes away, the more the appetite returns, but it still stirs quite a bit and no one dares start cutting vegetables. So, we test our homemade jars. The beef bourguignon is a hit and the bananas, oranges and apples take quite a beating! On deck, it's dungarees, jacket and hat (even Florian has taken out his raincoat and that's saying something!)
